TEFAF Maastricht

Axel Vervoordt is pleased to announce our participation in the 2020 edition of TEFAF Maastricht, one of the world’s leading fairs for fine art, antiques, and design since 1988. The fair is open to the public from March 7-15, 2020.

This year’s presentation includes post-war and contemporary works of art by Otto Boll, José Zanine Caldas, Chung Chang-sup, Gotthard Graubner, Per Kirkeby, Tsuyoshi Maekawa, Otto Piene, Kazuo Shiraga, Bosco Sodi, Antoni Tàpies, Jef Verheyen, Katsuhiro Yamaguchi, and Yun Hyong-keun.

These works will be installed in dialogue with timeless antiquities. One of the stand’s highlights is an exceptional granodiorite head of the Egyptian god Min, which dates to the reign of pharaoh Amenhotep III (XVIIIth Dynasty, ca. 1388 - 1351 BCE).

An ancient god of fertility, Min’s powers were centered around the cyclical and continuous creation of life. Their explicit iconography caused the representations of the god to be especially susceptible to religiously-motivated iconoclasm, the destructive effects of which are visible in the present example. The forceful spirit of Min’s divine gaze remains very much intact, generating a profound sense of awe and reverence within all who see it.
