Dominique Stroobant
Book description
On the occasion of Dominique Stroobant’s exhibition Axel Vervoordt Gallery publishes the first monograph on the artist. The book gives an overview of his body of work as well as an insight into the artist’s mind, by bringing together many historical images and unpublished biographical material from the artist’s personal archive. First starting with photos of the artist’s environment and workspace, taken by Laziz Hamani, the book further continues with several texts. Besides Dominique Stroobant’s own words, it also contains essays by Angela Thomas, Dirk Pörschman and Axel Vervoordt. The body of the book consists of a chronological overview of Stroobant’s work. Photos, notes, sketches, quotes, studies and models reflect the chaotic and winding nature of his practice. Subsequently, Stroobant’s completed sculptures in stone, granite, steel and marble are shown, once again through the lens of Hamani, who hovered over the smooth surface of the works and delivered equally sleek and profound photos.
