Sopheap Pich
The Lahore Biennale Foundation 2024

October 05 - November 08, 2024

We're pleased to announce that Sopheap Pich created a new, large-scale sculpture titled, “Bauhinia Purpurea” (2024) for the Biennale. Made of rattan and bamboo, the work represents a flowering weed that also helped nourish many Cambodians through the Khmer Rouge regime, which Pich commemorated in a series of sculptures beginning in 2011. Pich has been working with rattan and bamboo for his art-making for nearly two decades, fostering development in the traditional craft of weaving and working with plant fibres by showing how they can be used to draw in space.
