Story of the exhibition
Axel Vervoordt Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition by Shiro Tsujimura.
Shiro Tsujimura can be considered as one of the most important masters of Japanese ceramics of our time. Yet, the playful sense of freedom and self-confidence sets him apart from any other contemporary potter. Tsujimura’s art and approach are founded on the beauty and purity of the earth and its relationship and transformation with nature and fire.
Axel Vervoordt explains: “Tsujimura's art is based on spontaneity and dynamism.
It is a practice of body and spirit that finds firm root in the cosmic duality of order or chaos.
Yet, the force of earth and fire, the passion for finding the life of clay in the process of the kiln, but also in the brushstrokes and ink, expresses a monumentality, which is to me, very timeless thus always contemporary.”
